The Athletic Trainer specializes in the health care of athletes. The trainer plays a unique role in preventing, recognizing, managing, rehabilitating, and educating the athlete/family in sports injuries. They play a role in planning and implementing specific treatment programs for individual patients according to the principles and practices of athletic training. Athletic trainers must have knowledge of a large range of medical problems. Assessment, evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be required. The Athletic Trainer can think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines. The Athletic trainer should be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation. The Athletic Trainer has the ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situation when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff and families.
