About The Position

The Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Virginia Tech seeks applications for a full-time, academic year, non-tenure-track Collegiate Faculty who will primarily contribute to the ECE undergraduate program's teaching mission. We are seeking candidates motivated to contribute to a collegial and inclusive department with a strong tradition of excellence in teaching and research. This Collegiate Faculty position will be at the assistant collegiate professor, associate collegiate professor, or full collegiate professor level with a 3, 5, or 7-year renewable contract, respectively with a competitive salary. Collegiate Faculty at Virginia Tech have the primary job expectation of supporting the teaching mission of the university by teaching courses, mentoring students, and actively contribute to the overall development and assessment of academic programs - at both the undergraduate and graduate levels (80% of workload). Secondarily, Collegiate faculty are expected to engage in and conduct research on the scholarship of teaching and learning related to their field and/or on disciplinary topics in their field and present their findings in professional venues, but there are no expectations for an extensive research program as is typical of tenure-track faculty appointments (10% of workload). Collegiate faculty are expected to participate in department, college, and university service, and committee work, and other duties as assigned (10% of workload). Applicants with expertise in all areas of electrical and computer engineering will be considered. Candidates who have a background in teaching and developing courses in engineering problem solving and design are preferred. Individuals with relevant industry experience are encouraged to apply. This position is based in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Requirements

  • A PhD degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a closely related field completed prior to employment.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Previous teaching experience in ECE or a related field.
  • A strong record of academic accomplishments.
  • A proven ability to work collaboratively.
  • Experience with and commitment to interdisciplinary research and instruction.

Nice To Haves

  • Interest or experience working effectively with a diverse student population.
  • Relevant industrial experience and academic experience teaching in the technical areas of Power Systems, Electric Machines, Power Electronics.
  • Willingness and ability to work in a high-tech environment, such as online instruction and distance learning.
  • Experience working in academia and collaborating with industry.
  • Experience working with industry to facilitate student project funding.
