About The Position

Under the direction and supervision of the Department of Development Services, this position will provide support by performing some of the following duties for all the Divisions within the Department. Example of Duties: Assist in the review of plans, plats, and documents for new development and redevelopment projects to ensure conformance with applicable design specifications, City policy, and applicable regulatory requirements related to stormwater and engineering / roadway design. Assist in the review of plats, record drawings, and video, and performs post-construction inspections required during project close-out / dedication. Assist in inspecting active construction sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to approved engineering plans, specifications, and construction and safety standards; may direct construction and maintenance activities when needed. Assists in Floodplain Management items such as the review of elevation certifications, revise and processing of substantial damage database information, and gathering, reviewing and summarizing data for Community Rating System activities. Assists in performing comprehensive building code plan review and inspection for all residential and commercial projects as prescribed by applicable City Code of Ordinances and applicable South Carolina Building Code - South Carolina Residential Code, South Carolina Plumbing Code, South Carolina Mechanical Code, South Carolina Fuel Gas Code, South Carolina Existing Building Code, ICC Energy Compliance Code, ICC Swimming Pool & Spa Code, National Electrical Code (NFPA 72) and the ICC A117.1 Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities. Assist in administrative and permitting efforts to ensure that development projects are moving efficiently through the City’s systems. Interacts with other City employees, the general public, design professionals, contractors and regulatory bodies in a professional, proactive and engaged manner; displaying enthusiastic initiative to solve issues and problems.
