About The Position

The College Completion Mentor plays a vital role in Improve Your Tomorrow’s (IYT) mission to support young men of color in achieving their higher education and career goals. This position serves as a first point of contact for IYT College Completion students, offering one-on-one mentorship, resource navigation, and holistic support. College Completion Mentors work to support students at community colleges and universities.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or legal permanent resident
  • Must be High school graduate, current college students preferred, but not required
  • Have reliable transportation
  • Ability to commit to meeting service hour requirements
  • Passion and commitment to IYT’s Mission, Vision, and Values

  • Possess good organizational skills and complete tasks promptly
  • Have a valid driver license (preferred), car preferred
  • High school graduate, college student or college graduate preferred

  • You must have the availability to work one of the following shifts
  • Monday: 1:30pm-5pm, Tuesday: 9:30am-2pm, Wednesday: 1:30pm-5pm, Thursday: 9:30am-2pm, Friday: 9:30am-2pm
  • Monday: 2pm-5:30pm, Tuesday: 10am-2:30pm, Wednesday: 2pm-5:30pm, Thursday: 10am-2:30pm, Friday: 10am-2:30pm
  • Monday: 1:30pm-5pm, Tuesday: 9:30am-4pm, Wednesday: 1:30pm-5pm, Thursday: 9:30am-4pm, Friday: OFF
  • Monday: 2pm-5:30pm, Tuesday: 10am-5pm, Wednesday: 2pm-5:30pm, Thursday: 10am-5pm, Friday: OFF

Responsibilities

  • Provide monthly one-on-one mentorship sessions to a caseload of 50–60 college students, conducted both in person and virtually.
  • Support students in navigating academic challenges, financial aid, mental health resources, and overall well-being.
  • Build trust-based relationships that promote persistence, self-advocacy, and career readiness.
  • Provide timely information about on- and off-campus services, including tutoring, academic advising, transfer support, basic needs, and counseling.
  • Refer students to appropriate IYT staff or college departments for specialized support.
  • Track mentorship progress and student needs in case management systems.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of mentorship meetings, referrals, and student engagement.
  • Assist with scheduling, paperwork, and data entry to support program reporting and evaluation.
  • Assist in the planning, execution, and facilitation of workshops, events, and community-building activities.
  • Co-lead or support student success workshops focused on topics such as time management, financial literacy, and mental wellness.
  • Represent IYT at outreach and recruitment events, particularly supporting high school-to-college transition activities.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, college faculty, partner organizations, and IYT team members.
  • Uphold IYT’s values in all interactions and serve as a visible and positive representative of the organization.
  • Support other program needs and initiatives as assigned by team lead.
