About The Position

Working independently and exercising sound judgment and discretion, the College Success Coach is a proactive, relational guide for a cohort of Liberty University residential students. Through intentional coaching relationships, the purpose is to develop personalized success strategies that support students' academic, personal, and vocational goals. Coaches help students define what success means to them, recognizing that these goals may change, and provide ongoing encouragement and guidance as students refine their goals. The Coach serves students by fostering a sense of belonging, engagement, and perseverance by identifying barriers to success early, leveraging student data to inform outreach, and connecting students with campus resources and support systems. The role also involves tracking student progress and contributing to data-informed student success initiatives. This full-time staff position is part of the College of Applied Studies & Academic Success (CASAS) and reports to the Assistant Director of College Success Services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 1-2 years of professional experience in higher education or related field required.
  • Familiarity with student information systems or data tracking tools preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well-articulated information.
  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.
  • Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University.
  • Strong organizational and computer skills.
  • Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.
  • Required to travel to local and campus locations.
  • Required to sit to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard.
  • Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally.
  • Required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the building.
  • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.
  • Regularly lift 10 or fewer pounds.
  • Proof of a valid driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, LU Driving Approval, and liability insurance is required when driving in the performance of the employee’s position.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in higher education or related field required.
  • Experience using student data to inform outreach and support strategies required.
  • 5+ years of professional experience, with at least 2 years as a College Success Coach at Liberty University required.
  • Evidenced ability to mentor, support, and train staff, with the ability to support the team by filling temporary gaps in departmental service.
  • Advanced proficiency demonstrated in using data systems to track student progress and inform coaching practices.

Responsibilities

  • Build intentional, developmental relationships with students through one-on-one coaching sessions, group interactions, and consistent follow-up communication via email, phone, or in-person meetings while maintaining an accurate record of student interactions and progress.
  • Serve as a trusted point of contact throughout a student’s academic journey, promoting a sense of belonging and providing individualized support tailored to students' unique goals and challenges informed by academic and engagement data.
  • Equip students with the skills and confidence to use academic tools, promoting student ownership and self-advocacy, enabling students to establish and understand their own academic information.
  • Manage a caseload of students by implementing proactive, data-informed engagement strategies, including new student welcomes, non-registration interventions, and academic standing follow-ups, to foster meaningful and encouraging interactions, address barriers early, and promote student persistence.
  • Collaborate regularly with faculty, academic departments, and campus partners to support students’ academic and personal development through coordinated care, sharing relevant data insights to inform support strategies.
  • Connect students to relevant campus resources, such as tutoring, counseling, financial aid, and career services, as part of a holistic approach to student success.
  • Participate in broader student success efforts, such as recruitment events, career fairs, and retention-focused initiatives led by the university, contributing data-informed insights to enhance student engagement.
  • Perform any other student support-related duties deemed necessary by CASAS leadership.
  • Adhere strictly to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
  • Work effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s Christian model and Mission – Training Champions for Christ.
