About The Position

The College of Business Academic Advisor at Stony Brook University is responsible for providing individual academic advising to undergraduate students, teaching a student success course, and supporting students in their academic journey. This role involves coordinating orientation and registration processes, planning events, and developing advising strategies to enhance student satisfaction and retention. The advisor will also analyze student enrollment trends and facilitate internship processes, ensuring students receive the necessary support for their academic and professional success.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Three years of full-time experience in academic advising, teaching, counseling, or student services at the college or university level.
  • Experience coordinating projects, programs, and/or events.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in higher education, student affairs, social work, counseling, or related discipline.
  • Additional years of experience in academic advising, counseling, teaching, or student services.
  • Experience teaching new student seminars or student-development related courses.
  • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft and Tableau.
  • Experience making data-driven decisions.
  • Experience interacting with a diverse student population.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality, proactive academic advising to undergraduates in the College of Business.
  • Teach a student success course (SBU101) and support students in promoting their academic success.
  • Assist with the orientation and registration process for incoming students.
  • Plan and coordinate activities and events throughout the academic year.
  • Develop and implement advising strategies to enhance student satisfaction and retention.
  • Facilitate the internship process for business majors using the Handshake system.
  • Analyze trends in student enrollment and registration using databases such as Tableau.
  • Evaluate business course transfer credits and maintain records for honor societies.
  • Participate in the planning and development of team meetings and trainings within the College of Business.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate an assigned teaching assistant for the new student seminar.

Benefits

  • Base salary of $60,000 - $62,000.
  • Eligible for $3,400 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
