About The Position

Primary Purpose The Scholars with Diverse Abilities Program ( SDAP ) is a transition-focused, non-degree program for students with intellectual disabilities with the purpose of increasing their self-determination. SDAP students audit college courses, including core courses focused on life skills development, and receive individualized coaching using a person-centered planning process. SDAP students benefit from an all-encompassing collegiate experience and are an integral part of the campus community. Graduates leave the program with skills that will help them advocate for themselves throughout their adult lives and have a greater opportunity to secure employment in fields that are meaningful to them. The College Life Resource Coordinator/Lecturer provides students with access to resources on and off campus to ensure their success. This role collaborates with the director and assistant director on student goals, concerns, and curriculum development. The College Life Resource Coordinator/Lecturer may supervise graduate assistants, interns and volunteers as needed. Essential Duties And Responsibilities The College Life Resource Coordinator/Lecturer is responsible for the following: Managing the College Life Peer Supports (student staff) who live with SDAP students in student housing; Managing the SDAP mentorship program involving upper-level SDAP students who mentor first- and second-year SDAP students; Providing weekly coaching of individual SDAP students; Planning, preparing, and teaching courses in life-skills topics for SDAP and other university students; Producing the SDAP monthly newsletter; Supporting SDAP’s social media presence; Supervising other student staff and volunteers as needed; Maintaining files and records related to SDAP student academic and community engagement performance; Assisting with program recruitment and admissions activities and processes; Assisting with a variety of leadership activities including program planning, revision, and sustainability efforts; Attending occasional professional development opportunities; Responding to student/staff requests for information in a variety of formats including in-person, text, email, phone, video-call, etc.; Providing staff representation at SDAP outreach events; Performing other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master’s in Special Education, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or a related field required
  • Experience working with and/or teaching specific populations
  • Experience with a person-centered planning approach to advising
  • Experience teaching at the college level
  • Experience working on a team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Be willing to work an occasional evening or weekend due to university events, but not more than 5 times a semester
  • Be willing to accept occasional student/staff emergency communications on evenings and/or weekends
  • Experience working with a smartphone and smartphone apps for communication
