New York City College of Technology (City Tech) of the City University of New York (CUNY) is a comprehensive college in downtown Brooklyn, offering associate and baccalaureate degree in technology and health related degree programs, other career-oriented degrees and liberal arts transfer degrees in its Schools of Arts and Sciences, Technology and Design, and Professional Studies. City Tech invites applications for a College Laboratory Technician within the Computer Systems Technology Department to begin during the 2025-2026 academic year. The Department of Computer Systems Technology offers three degrees: (a) an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Computer Information Systems, (b) a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Computer Systems and (c) a Bachelor in Science (BS) in Data Science. The AAS program prepares students for entry-level careers in computer programming, database programming, web programming, and systems/network administration and support; the BTech program allows students to further specialize in software development, networking and security, database management, or internet computing. The modular nature of the BTech curriculum allows students to gain a broad overview of IT applications and to specialize in areas of particular interest; the BS in Data Science program is a synthesis of applied mathematics, high-performance computing, data management and analysis. Data Science is a rapidly developing field with multiple career opportunities in commercial companies, public sector, NGOs, research groups. Reporting to the Chair of the Computer Systems Technology Department, the duties of the College Laboratory Technician will include, but not be limited to: + Networking, server support, and troubleshooting to assist classroom, laboratory, and departmental activities. + Conversion and migration of computers and servers, network design, web design, virtualization, and cloud. + Administer Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) utilizing various operating systems (Linux, Windows Server, Windows 7-11 and others) + Programming and database support, and system database management. + Determining departmental equipment requirements, preparing purchase specifications and coordinating acquisitions. + Preparation and reconciliation of purchase requisitions in the CUNYfirst procurement system. + Where appropriate, training and supervising adjunct college laboratory technicians and other laboratory staff. + Related duties as assigned.
