Basic FunctionProfessional learning experience in the Office of Strategy where an undergraduate or graduate student participant gains practical work experience in the following areas: Geographic Information Systems (GIS), data analytics, data science, business intelligence, grant writing, data gathering and analysis, systems engineering, process development, and management system development. Specific duties vary depending on the assigned department and business need. Internships begin with orientation in June and conclude in early August. Position will work 32 hours per week and will work 100% on site. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.Responsibilities and Specific Duties Assignments may include responsibilities in one or more of the following areas: Develops process maps and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for NTD reports, Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) coordination, Formula Funding allocation, Grant Writing, and other responsibilities. Develops tracking tool for METRO’s federally funded sponsored projects within the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). Develops visualizations (dashboards/reports) and performs spatial analysis using tools like Tableau and ArcGIS.Automates data processing and reporting as applicable. Assists in preparation and development of discretionary grant applications. Contributes to departmental goals and objectives. Suggests solutions to business issues and challenges. Attends and participates in meetings. Assists in functional and/or business analytics. Gathers and scrubs data for analysis and reports. Assists with client consulting and support. Assists with writing grants, procedures guide, presentations, training materials, etc.Contributes to a collaborative atmosphere. Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers. Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP). Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
