About The Position

There are two available positions for this opportunity, one summer internship and one full-year internship. As an Engineering Technology Intern, within the Port of Seattle Engineering Design Services Department, you’ll gain hands-on experience at one of the largest ports on the West Coast, supporting live capital, small works, and tenant projects to work more efficiently. You’ll work closely with an assigned mentor and collaborate with experienced design technologists and engineers, implementing BIM (Building Information Modeling), CAD, automation, and digital delivery workflows at scale for an owner-operator of aviation, maritime, and economic development projects. The projects and initiatives you will be a part of may include, but are not limited to, the following: Collaborate with the Engineering Technology Team to identify automation opportunities, develop parametric tools and/or workflows, and test innovative solutions that align with our digital transformation initiatives. Document and create SOPs for the workflows and tools you create and may support a member of the Engineering Technology Team with training stakeholders. Creation and optimization of workflows using APIs from Autodesk Construction Cloud/Forma and other tools. Creation and optimization of Dynamo scripts and custom Python nodes to automate repetitive tasks, improve data management, and streamline model coordination processes. You will collaborate with the Engineering Technology Team to identify automation opportunities, develop parametric tools, and test innovative solutions that align with our digital transformation initiatives. Assist with maintaining and updating the Port’s CAD symbol libraries, details, and standards. Assist with the development and implementation of the Port’s new BIM Standard, including family and template creation. Assist with supporting updates to the Port’s Guide Specifications and quality control procedures. Perform, conduct, and/or assist the design technology team with site inspections. Apply safety requirements while performing inspection and produce accurate as-built documents for stakeholders.

Requirements

  • A student – You must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program, or certificate program, or a recent graduate (< 1 year ago) in a program such as Building Information Modeling, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, structural engineering, architecture, construction, project management, computer programming/coding, or other related field.

  • Technology – You have experience with MS Office products, including Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, and SharePoint. You have at least some experience with Autodesk applications such as AutoCAD and Revit. You will be familiar with and/or willing to learn coding software tools and best practices.
