About The Position

The college admissions counselor's primary role is to provide comprehensive academic and college advising retail services to students with diverse interests and abilities. College Admissions Counselors for The Princeton Review assist students and families with all aspects of the college preparation, search, and application process. The college admissions counselor may also be presented with special projects pertaining to other needs of the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; higher level degree preferred
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in admissions at a selective college or university; high school or independent counseling experience also preferred
  • A deep knowledge of the college admissions and application process with a desire to remain 'on trend' in the field of college admissions and counseling
  • A 'people' person who makes others feel at ease, is engaging, flexible, and is collaborative by nature
  • Exceptional writing skills with a deep knowledge of college essay editing
  • Exceptional communication and public speaking skills
  • Attention to detail, with strong organizational skills
  • Expertise in using web-based tools to advise students
  • Available to work evenings and weekends, as needed, especially during the application season from August through December
  • Excellent time management and productivity skills

Responsibilities

  • Work with both middle and high school students through all aspects of the college admissions process
  • Manage time to accommodate a pre-determined caseload of students. Caseloads may vary year-to-year based on company need and counselor availability
  • Collaborate as part of a two-part team that includes college admissions coaches and other counselors
  • Deliver college admissions focused webinars, social media events, and assist with other marketing endeavors, as needed and time allows
  • Assist with the delivery of institutional programming, as needed and time allows

  • Pay: $50-$100 per hour, based on credentials
