About The Position

Position Summary: The collections internship is a unique opportunity for graduate students in museum studies, art history, or library science a to spend eight weeks living and working at Taliesin West, Frank Lloyd Wright’s desert laboratory inscribed to the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Collection Intern will be provided with an inspiring learning opportunity with a mix of projects in the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation Collections of Fine and Decorative Arts which includes cataloging, condition reporting, and inventorying. There will also be opportunities to spend time working on short projects with the department’s archivist and librarian. NOTE: this position is approximately eight weeks in duration (estimated to begin mid-June and last through mid-August) and includes both onsite housing at Taliesin West and an hourly stipend of $15.15 for up to 26 hours of work weekly.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in a graduate-level library science, museum studies, art history, or related field; eligibility for university credit may exist depending on the academic internship requirements of the intern’s degree program (inquire for more details).
  • Proficiency in basic computer operation, navigation of online web services and applications, and utilization of software programs including Microsoft Office within a Windows environment.
  • Demonstrated high levels of motivation, capable of working in a high energy environment, a creative and flexible thinker, able to work independently and within a supportive team, demonstrate attention to detail, and have strong research and organizational skills.
  • The successful candidate must be able to lift 40 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Cataloging art collection materials such as prints or drawings.
  • Inventorying, cataloging, and rehousing hand-crafted theater costumes.
  • Preventative conservation such as cleaning objects and creating custom housing.
  • Assisting with collection moves.
  • Working collaboratively with Collections and Foundation staff as projects and programs warrant.
  • Collaborating with Collections department staff members including the Director, Registrar & Collections Manager, Research & Special Collections Librarian, and Archivist, under their guidance and within a learning environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
