Position Overview: This dual professional staff position, reporting to the Associate Library Director for Technologies and Information Resources, leads and coordinates the selection, development, deselection, and analysis and assessment of Hazy Library print and electronic book and periodical collections in support of the ERAU curriculum. The incumbent also serves as a subject specialist liaison to assigned academic departments and conducts research instruction sessions and research consultations with students. Key responsibilities include chairing the Collection Management Committee of liaison librarians, developing strong relationships with faculty to discern teaching and curricular needs, and working collaboratively with librarians on the effectiveness of library collections and the information literacy program in support of student and faculty success. The Collection Development and Research and Instruction Librarian also works collaboratively with librarians in the Hunt Library on the Daytona Beach Campus to ensure coordinated, data-informed collection development, and access to information resources. Staff of the Hazy Library and Learning Center endorse university value statements, contribute to achieving university and library strategic initiatives, and expand and continuously improve quality library services.

Requirements

• Work or internship experience in an academic library. New graduates encouraged to apply
• Experience in, or knowledge of collection development in an academic library environment
• The ability to apply current collection management methods to acquire and manage resources in support of the university curriculum
• Knowledge of, or interest in research assistance and information literacy instruction in an academic library
• Strong public speaking skills, and the ability to organize and present information to varied audiences, with a focus on information literacy and critical thinking
• Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies, and experience with a Library Services Platform (LSP), online searching, database navigation, and information seeking behaviors
• Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of programs: Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong customer service skills, and a personal service philosophy of building positive relationships and partnerships within and outside the library
• The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and establish professional, collegial working relationships
• The ability to work in a rapidly changing environment, share ideas, and demonstrate innovation and creativity in advancing the work of the library

Responsibilities

• Collaboratively leads the coordinating, planning, development, management, and assessment of print collections, including monographs, print serials, and standing orders, to support student learning outcomes, teaching, scholarship, and research.
• Oversees collection management activities including review, evaluation, selection, deselection, replacement, monitoring of collection condition, and weeding. Provides leadership for collection maintenance by developing tools, reports, and guidance for liaison librarians.
• Leads collection assessment by analyzing and maintaining collection data including collection age, usage patterns, interlibrary loan activity, faculty and student requests, and other metrics to identify collection strengths, gaps, and curricular relevance. Develops collection performance metrics and reports and shares reports as needed and requested to support strategic planning, budgeting, accreditation reporting, and data-informed collection decisions.
• Serves as chair of the Collection Management Committee, coordinating the evaluation and selection of scholarly information resources and facilitating collaboration among liaison librarians on collection priorities and decision-making.
• Tracks and analyzes allocations and expenditures of subject-based book funds. Prepares regular budget and statistical reports and provides recommendations to the Associate Library Director for Technologies and Information Resources and the Collection Management Committee.
• Develops and maintains policies, guidelines, and procedures for collection development and management aligned with academic programs and institutional priorities.
• Participates in ERAU -Hunt Library collection management team meetings and collaborates with colleagues to coordinate shared collection strategies and practices.
• Manages workflows and policies for donated materials and serves as a point of contact for donors.
• Plans and manages physical space for print collections, including shelving capacity, collection shifts, and space optimization to ensure access of materials.
• Serves as subject liaison to assigned academic departments. Identifies, selects, reviews, and evaluates information resources to support the curriculum.
• Maintains knowledge of curricular aligned STEM resources in support of student and faculty research and assignment completion
• Stays current with best practices and emerging trends in academic library collection management.
• Participates with other librarians in a community of practice in support of high-quality research and instruction services and in partnership and support for undergraduate research initiatives
• Provide research consultations and reference services in person and online, including scheduled evening hours, advising students, faculty, and staff on research strategies, resource discovery, evaluation of information, ethical use of information, and scholarly communication.
• Supports discovery and effective use of the library’s print and collections through reference services and research consultations.
• Maintains current knowledge of research tools, database enhancements, and emerging technologies to support evolving research needs.
• Cultivates and fosters innovative partnerships with faculty to integrate information literacy skills, critical thinking strategies, and research methods at all curriculum levels.
• Collaborates with librarians and faculty to develop and deliver individualized instruction, general orientation programs, online instructional tutorials, webinars/workshops, course-integrated instruction and presentations, using online or in-person instruction methods while addressing diverse learning styles.
• Embeds library content into the course management system, providing integration of library resources into the academic curriculum.
• Instructs multiple sections of the first-year communications course on research skills.
• Designs and produces instructional learning aids, tutorials, and research guides.
• Stays current on best practices, learning styles, and emerging needs to provide innovative and effective assistance.
• Works across campuses with Hunt Library Acquisitions staff on all-campus collection initiatives
• Develops strong knowledge of library collection needs and future growth areas through building ongoing relationships with faculty and students to support research, scholarship and academic success.
• Promotes and markets library collections and resources, including displays, communication campaigns, and outreach initiatives in collaboration with liaison librarians and campus partners.
• Serves on library, campus wide and university committees as needed or assigned.
• Serves on the Prescott Campus Faculty Senate Curriculum Committee, as a voting member, to review curriculum changes and new degree program proposals and to evaluate impact on library information resources.
• Represents the university in scholarly and creative achievement contributions at conferences and seminars, and in the community.
• Attends conferences and workshops and participates in professional associations.
• Position may include other duties as assigned by supervisor.
