About The Position

The Collections Curator is responsible for management and care of the collection for the Museum of the Cape Fear Historical Complex. This position oversees proper storage, documentation, and receipt of objects for the museum’s collection. This position reports to the Business Officer. This position also serves as a member of the exhibition team. This position submits yearly budgets for collections care and has knowledgeable of museum standards and best practices.

Requirements

  • Must be able to work Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, crouch, bend, and other forms of movement for the position.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Biology, Botany, Conservation, Education, History or Zoology from an appropriately accredited institution AND two years of museum or related work; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience in collections management and care.
  • Experience in historical research and writing.
  • Experience with collections software platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Applying museum methods regarding collections care and conservation.
  • Conducting research into historical objects.
  • Object processing includes cataloguing and condition reporting.
  • Maintaining collections’ software files.
  • Monitoring collections and museum for humidity and pests.
