About The Position

The Kansas City, Kansas Environmental Services Division is seeking a motivated Collection System Apprentice to join the team. This entry-level position supports the maintenance and operation of the wastewater collection system to ensure reliable and environmentally responsible service to the community. The Collection System Apprentice works under the technical direction of senior staff, including Collection System Technicians II and III, or a division leader, to assist with a variety of maintenance, repair, and operational tasks. Duties include operating cleaning equipment, supporting the use of CCTV inspection equipment, and assisting with system upkeep to ensure the collection network operates safely and efficiently. This position is DOT-regulated and requires adherence to all safety and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • All positions require that the applicant be a resident of Wyandotte county or willing to relocate within (12) months from the date of hire.
  • As a condition of employment all employees must pass a post offer physical examination and drug screen.
  • Submit proof of identity and employment eligibility.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain a Class B CDL permit within 90 days and a Class B CDL within six months of hiring.
  • All applicants for this position who do not presently hold a safety sensitive position with the Unified Government will be required to submit to a drug test after successful bid and before actual appointment.
  • This position is regulated by the US Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and is subject to as drug and alcohol testing regulations as identified in 49 CFR Part 40, as amended, and 49 CFR Part 382, as amended.

Nice To Haves

  • Routine maintenance and six months or more of relevant experience preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, such as those listed above.
  • Class I KWEA collections certification and/or KDHE certification within 3 years of hire date.
