About The Position

The Collection Management Assistant assists with the addition of materials to the collections.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Equivalency Development (GED)
  • Experience or training in searching library databases and using standard office software.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, ability to lift 25 lbs. unassisted to place materials on high and low shelves.
  • Requires occasional independent transportation for travel to libraries, programs, and outreach locations.

Responsibilities

  • Processes books and materials for circulation, including but not limited to applying covers and stickers, stamping selected books and repackaging audio-visual materials.
  • Continually updates documents related to job duties in the Collection Management SharePoint section
  • Prepares library materials to be shipped via UPS, FedEx, and other delivery methods.
  • Prepares library materials to be shipped via UPS, US Mail and other delivery methods.
  • Processes interlibrary loan materials received from other libraries.
  • Unpacks and verifies contents of shipments and inter-library loans. Receives materials using the Integrated Library System.
  • Assists with copy cataloging by identifying and transferring bibliographic records from Online Computer Library Center (OCLS) or other bibliographic utilities to The Library’s database; performs searches to avoid duplication of entries. Edits these records to reflect The Library’s cataloging standards.
  • Assists with projects related to collection management.
  • Assists with the maintenance of local authority files.
  • Attends staff meetings and continuing education workshops.
  • Lives by the Core Values.
  • Performs other related duties.
