About The Position

This posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Line Maintenance Division of the Utilities Department within the City of Oklahoma City. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per provisions of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement. Employees of this classification perform work of a specialized nature, involving installation, repair and maintenance of water distribution and/or wastewater collection systems. The skills and knowledge required can be acquired on the job. The worker is part of a crew. Crew members work in close proximity to one another, while completing assigned tasks, requiring cooperative effort. The employee must follow safety regulations and procedures specific to each work environment and assigned tasks. Work will include occasional contact with the public to answer questions specific to the crew's function with the supervisor present to respond to unusual situations. Upon receipt of oral and written instructions from the immediate supervisor, the worker completes assigned tasks. Essential job functions include: Performing a variety of routine maintenance and servicing operations for the City’s water distribution system and wastewater collection systems. Installing, maintaining and repairing activities are performed on water lines, water meters, water valves, fire hydrants, sewer lines, pumps, manholes, and other system components.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid driver License (Operator).
  • NOTE: Collection and Distribution Trainee is an interim or temporary classification for otherwise qualified individuals who do not meet the full licensing requirements of a Collection and Distribution Technician. The employee will be required to possess or obtain an Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Distribution/Collection Technician Class D Certificate within six (6) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion. The employee also will be required to possess or obtain a valid Class A Commercial Driver License with Tanker Endorsement within twelve (12) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining an Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Distribution/Collection Technician Class D Certificate within six (6) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion and obtaining a Class A Commercial Driver License with Tanker Endorsement within twelve (12) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/ demotion.

Responsibilities
