What You’ll Do: This position serves as the organization's subject matter expert on real estate valuation that oversees all collateral within RCU's business lending department. The role ensures collateral valuation processes and systems support sound lending decisions and meet regulatory requirements. Duties include management and oversight of commercial and residential appraisal processes (including third-party appraisal management vendors); providing support as a reviewer and escalation point of contact for complex appraisal issues; overseeing environmental due diligence ensuring proper risk assessment and mitigation; performing internal CRE and non-CRE evaluations; managing construction loan administration; and managing flood hazard coverage and determination processes. This position requires a thorough understanding of credit union policies and procedures and regulatory guidance regarding appraisal independence and requirements for financial institutions. The Collateral Review Specialist must have the ability to solve complex collateral issues and recommend solutions to appropriately mitigate collateral risk. This position requires skilled communication with external and internal customers as well as third-party vendors. Our Commitment To You: Compensation: This is a salaried position; candidates with significant related experience may be higher. What’s Needed For This Position: High School Diploma or Equivalent Seven (7) years experience in commercial and residential real estate appraisal work Environmental due diligence experience Appraisal or appraisal review experience Wisconsin and/or Minnesota Certified Residential or General Appraisal License This position requires regular travel within Royal Credit Union’s geographic footprint. The Collateral Review Specialist will be expected to visit various sites to conduct property inspections, oversee collateral evaluations, and review real estate assets in person as part of their responsibilities to ensure accurate valuation and risk assessment. Knowledge, Skills and Competencies: Valuation & Risk Management: Deep expertise in commercial lending, appraisal review, and environmental due diligence, with the ability to solve complex collateral issues and recommend risk mitigation strategies. Process & Project Management: Skilled in overseeing multiple tasks, projects, and routines under tight deadlines, including construction loan administration and flood hazard coverage. Communication & Collaboration: Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to present information, respond to questions, and collaborate effectively with team members, leaders, vendors, and third-party appraisers. Analytical & Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical, judgment, and decision-making abilities; able to evaluate and improve existing processes and maintain quality control. Technical Proficiency & Adaptability: Proficient in Microsoft Office and quick to learn new technologies; able to prepare reports, business correspondence, and presentations in a clear and concise manner. We’d Love To See: Bachelor’s Degree or the Equivalent in Experience in Economics, Finance, Business Administration Experience with Fiserv DNA and/or Abrigo Sageworks CLOS software Work Schedule and Office Location: Full-Time position; Hours will generally be Monday through Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm with occasional evening and weekend hours, as needed. This position is part of Royal's workplace flexibility program and has the ability to be hybrid after approximately 4-6 months of training and proficiency in the position. When not working remote, the office location is flexible at either the Corporate Office in Eau Claire, WI, or at our White Bear Lake, MN office based on office availability and candidate preference. Training: Prior to starting a normal work schedule, new Royal team members must attend Foundation Training at our Corporate Center in Eau Claire, WI from 9:00am - 4:30pm on Monday and Tuesday during their first week of employment. Out of town learners will be reimbursed costs related to travel and lodging.
