About The Position

Under the leadership of the Dean of the Winters School of Music, the Collaborative Pianist is a non-faculty position responsible for providing comprehensive piano accompaniment and coaching for the department. The successful candidate will accompany students in rehearsals and performances for solos, chamber groups, and ensembles. This role is essential in supporting student learning by providing accompaniment for instrumental and vocal lessons, studio performance classes, studio recitals, degree, elective, and upper-level recitals, and final jury examinations. This job description does not state or imply that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee occupying this position. Requirements

  • Master's degree in collaborative piano or related area from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Strong accompanying, sight-reading and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with standard vocal and instrumental collaborative repertoire.
  • A commitment to a biblical worldview and code of conduct that exemplifies the mission of William Carey University.
  • Must be able to maintain a flexible schedule due to the nature of rehearsal, recital, and performance schedules.

Nice To Haves

  • DMA in collaborative piano or other terminal degree in a related field.
  • 3 years' experience as a collaborative pianist.
  • Experience working as a collaborative pianist at a collegiate institution.
  • Knowledge of Italian, French, German, and English diction.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the university in implementing the Statement of Purpose and long-range institutional plans
  • Provide comprehensive collaborative piano services—including sight-reading and/or prepared accompaniment in a variety of musical styles—for choral groups, instrumental chamber ensembles, recitals (including upper-level recitals), concerts, musicals, instructional classes, rehearsals, and other special events.
  • Rehearse with students individually or in small groups to develop collaborative performance skills, ensemble awareness, and effective musical partnership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of the Winters School of Music.
