About The Position

The Coil Spring / Air Spring Design Release Engineer is responsible for the end‑to‑end engineering, development, validation, and launch of chassis spring components for vehicle programs. This role ensures that coil springs and air springs meet all functional, durability, comfort, NVH, regulatory, and manufacturing requirements while achieving cost, weight, timing, and quality targets. The engineer interfaces cross‑functionally with Architecture, Vehicle Dynamics, Program Management, Suppliers, Manufacturing, and Quality to successfully deliver spring systems into production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in chassis, suspension, or structural component engineering (springs preferred). Experience may include internships or co-ops.
  • Strong understanding of mechanics, material science (steel/alloys/elastomers), fatigue, and NVH principles.
  • Experience with GD&T, CAD tools (CATIA, NX, or similar), and PLM systems.
  • Knowledge of coil spring forming, heat‑treatment, shot‑peening, powder coating, air bellows, and air spring systems.
  • Familiarity with vehicle development processes, DFMEA, DVP&R, and PPAP/validation standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with air suspension systems, pneumatics, and chassis controls integration or Coil Springs
  • Hands‑on experience with vehicle testing and ride/handling tuning.
  • Background in CAE interpretation (fatigue analysis, nonlinear structural analysis, air spring modeling).
  • Strong supplier negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced program environment with multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Own full design release responsibility for coil springs and/or air springs, including CAD definition, technical specifications, and drawing creation.
  • Lead design studies, trade‑offs, and optimization related to ride, handling, wheel travel, loads, packaging, durability, and NVH.
  • Conduct DFMEA, DVP&R creation, and ensure robust engineering documentation.
  • Develop and maintain technical specifications for spring materials, coatings, fatigue performance, and manufacturing processes.
