About The Position

Build Your Career with Worthington Steel in Rome, NY Picture the start of your shift: handoff with teammates, a quick safety talk, a walk-through of your line, and the satisfaction of running quality steel through well-maintained equipment. That’s a typical night with our team in Rome, NY. You’ll train on first shift (7:00 AM–3:00 PM) to learn our processes and then transition to third shift (11:00 PM–7:00 AM). Saturday overtime is scheduled in advance.

Requirements

  • Clear communication and the ability to follow work instructions.
  • Solid basic math and strong attention to detail.
  • Comfort standing for extended periods and lifting up to 35 lbs.
  • Flexibility to work any shift and overtime as business needs arise.
  • A positive, team-first approach.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements
  • High School diploma or GED

Nice To Haves

  • Mechanical troubleshooting skills
  • Material handler experience
  • Ability to read a tape measure
  • Comfort with heavy material handling
  • Current forklift license
  • Shop math proficiency
  • Background in a manufacturing environment

Responsibilities

  • Operate and keep an eye on production equipment, ensuring smooth, safe throughput.
  • Load and unload materials, stage product, and assist with packaging to customer specs.
  • Perform quality checks using gauges, fixtures, and a tape measure; document results.
  • Support machine operators with changeovers, setups, and routine documentation.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and hazard-free work area.

  • Hourly rate: $20.00–$23.40 based on experience, plus a $1.50/hour shift premium.
  • Overtime: time-and-a-half after 40 hours; double time after 48 hours.
