The CMS Expansion Operator performs machine-driven tube expansion using a Computerized Mandrel System (CMS). This pull-expansion process utilizes long expansion rods, mandrels, and pins, combined with precise computer setup, to secure copper tubes into coil assemblies. This role requires strong technical aptitude, attention to setup accuracy, and the ability to operate and monitor computerized expansion equipment to meet quality and production standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to follow detailed work instructions.
  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort with machine-driven processes.
  • Ability to work with computerized equipment and expansion controls.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality standards.
  • Basic math skills, including measurement to 1/16 of an inch.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment in compliance with all safety procedures and regulations.
  • Safely operate cranes, hoists, and CMS expansion equipment.
  • Care for tools and equipment; report maintenance needs or system issues promptly.
  • Set up and operate the CMS expansion system, ensuring correct mandrel and pin combinations are selected per engineering specifications.
  • Configure and verify computer-controlled expansion parameters prior to expansion.
  • Perform pull-style tube expansion using long expansion rods to expand tubes to specification.
  • Load, position, and secure coils accurately on the CMS expansion table.
  • Monitor expansion cycles and make adjustments as required to ensure proper tube-to-fin contact.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, instructions, and bills of material.
  • Measure and verify components using precision tools (tape measure, micrometer as required).
  • Inspect expanded coils for quality, consistency, and compliance with specifications.
  • Follow manufacturing instructions independently and meet production deadlines.
  • Accurately record labor time in the time and attendance system.
  • Comply with company policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Perform overtime as required to meet production demands.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned by supervision.
