About The Position

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research leads the institution's broad research enterprise, including a university-wide array of faculty and staff research programs with total annual expenditures of nearly $2 billion, and assures compliance with federal, state, and University research regulations. The Conflict of Interest (COI) Compliance Manager supports this compliance framework by managing the annual collection and review of approximately 15,000 online disclosures of outside activities and financial interests from researchers and others. This position serves as a primary administrator for the COI Committee review processes, ensuring timely and accurate assessment of significant financial interests that could impact the design, conduct, or reporting of federally funded research or research involving human participants. The COI Compliance Manager collaborates closely with the COI Committee, campus administrators, and researchers to eliminate, minimize, or manage actual or potential financial conflicts of interest related to research. The COI Compliance Manager reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research Policy and Integrity and will assist in developing, maintaining, and implementing COI policies, procedures, and workflows, and coordinating and promoting research integrity among the university community.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and support UW-Madison Conflict of Interest committees (COI and ICOI)
  • Provides consultation for resolution of policy violations that involve students, employees, visitors, guests of the institution and/or applicants
  • Directs operational activities and staffing resources for compliance implementation, including outreach, support, and/or investigations
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for affiliated matters for internal and external stakeholders
  • Oversees, develops and participates in activities designed to raise awareness of the law(s) and its purpose
  • Provides guidance and oversight to university personnel compliance, policies, and procedures
  • Develops and maintains institutional and operating policies and procedures to ensure compliance
