About The Position

Primary purpose of the Cognitive Engagement Associate is to work in Mind Remapping: help residents learn intrinsic motivation; to challenge physically, mentally, and emotionally; and to initiate personal value and purpose – realizing their self-potential. The Cognitive Engagement Specialist will provide assistance in all functions as directed/instructed in accordance with established Resident Engagement policies and procedures governing Byron Wellness communities as well with federal, state and local regulations. Byron’s mission, vision, values communicate the things that drive us as an organization. All team members are expected to represent these aspects in their everyday lives. Our mission, vision, values are to be integrated into our daily interaction with co-workers, residents and any persons that may enter our facility.

Requirements

  • Must possess, as a minimum, a high school degree or equivalent.
  • Works and moves in office areas, therapy rooms, resident rooms, etc.
  • Work with or alongside resident, employees, visitors and government agencies/personnel.
  • Works beyond normal working hours including weekends and holidays when necessary.
  • May be subject to frequent interruptions.
  • May be subject to challenging moments with residents, family members, and visitors.
  • May be subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB, AIDS, and Hepatitis B viruses.
  • Communicates with medical staff, nursing staff, and other department supervisors.
  • Maintains a liaison with other department directors to adequately assist with care planning.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must be constantly alert for resident safety.
  • Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with the residents, personnel, and support agencies.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, and emotionally upset, people within the facility.
  • Must be able to assist residents with assistive devices, such as wheelchairs, with mobility.
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate’s degree is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize diverse cognitive mediation techniques: sensory input, utilization of the arts, movement, and will be trained in Feuerstein Instrumental Enrichment (FIE), Equipping Minds (EM), and learn Primitive Reflexes and the benefits of movement patterns.
  • Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate programs and activities; in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern nursing care facilities.
  • Develops and maintains care plans in timely manner. Ensures care plans are person-centered and informative to the interdisciplinary team. Participates in care plan meetings for residents on service, communicates well with family and makes referrals as needed.
  • Work with the facility’s consultants as necessary and implement recommended changes as required. (i.e. therapists, counselors, and nursing)
  • Work one-on-one with a resident that will be seen routinely at a scheduled time; developing cognitive strategies to help the resident to learn new information and look for solutions to problems with a growth mindset.
  • Follow safety regulations and precautions at all times.
  • Agree not to disclose resident’s protected health information and promptly report suspected or known violations of such disclosure to the Administrator or designee.
  • Follow established Infection Control Precaution policies and procedures when performing daily tasks.
  • Attend and participate in mandatory scheduled training and meetings.
  • Report complaints to the Director of Resident Engagement.
  • All other job duties and responsibilities as assigned or instructed.
