BASIC FUNCTION: To work with individuals who have experienced a traumatic brain injury as a Cognitive Therapist or Behavioral Therapist. Cognitive Therapist works with individuals that have experienced a traumatic brain injury to develop and utilize methods that enhance cognitive functioning. The Cognitive Therapist assists the individual through various methods including guided practice on tasks that reflect particular cognitive functions, development of new skills and strategies for taking in new information, use of memory aids and other assistive devices. Behavioral Therapist works with individuals that have experienced a traumatic brain injury to change in ways that they would like to change. These strategies are used to help increase the quality of life of the individual with TBI in their community. Behavior Therapy emphasizes the individual’s current environment. It focuses on making positive changes in that environment while improving the individual’s self-control using procedures to expand the person’s skills, abilities, and level of independence.
