About The Position

The Department of Neurology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking an engaging leader to direct our Cognitive & Behavioral Neurology Section and expand its clinical, research, educational, and patient outreach programs. W e are seeking individuals who are visionary, collaborative, communicative, caring, detail-oriented, organized, proactive, able to think critically, focused on quality, dedicated to personal growth, and highly motivated. Faculty rank will be at the level of Associate or Full Professor depending on qualifications. Applications are encouraged from candidates with clinical and/or basic research interests. This faculty position will work in the Cognitive & Behavioral Neurology Section, which currently includes 5 neurologists (one with dual training in Behavioral Neurology and Movement Disorders), 1 dual-trained neurologist/psychiatrist, 1 dual-trained neuro-ophthalmologist/behavioral neurologist, 1 neurodevelopmental disabilities specialist, 1 neuropsychologist, 2 Advanced Practice Providers (1 Physician Assistant, 1 Nurse Practitioner), and 1-2 neurology or psychiatry Behavioral Neurology & Neuropsychiatry fellows per year. The duties for this faculty position include teaching, research, clinical service, and administrative duties, as well as leadership and other roles. The overall distribution of such activities and allocation of responsibilities is determined by the department Chair based on section needs and faculty member skills, interests, appointments, and funding, amongst other appropriate considerations. Participation in all administrative/didactic meetings of the Cognitive & Behavioral Neurology Section is expected. Administrative responsibilities will include development of critical clinical and research pathways, committee work, and projects aimed at improving the section and department functions. The most important duty in this realm will be to mentor all the section members, especially junior faculty, and fellows. Opportunities to mentor neurology residents and medical students are also available. The Section Head will meet no less than twice a year with each section member to review their clinical and research finances, their progress toward promotion, and will interact with Vice Chair for Faculty Affairs and Promotion in this context. Attendance at meetings and educational events of the department and sections programs is expected. Other duties may be assigned as need arises. This position will work to develop community outreach and other activities designed to enhance and develop our programs in neurodegenerative diseases. In addition, there will be involvement in the teaching of students, residents, and fellows, and in section and department-wide quality and performance improvement projects.

Requirements

  • MD or DO
  • Board Certified Neurologist
  • 5 years of clinical and research expertise in Cognitive & Behavioral Neurology
  • A State of Colorado medical license and DEA license must be obtained on or before hire date
  • Applicants must have a scholarly and academic record consistent with appointment at the Associate Professor level in the School of Medicine
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
  • A positive, motivated, engaged, and caring attitude
  • Outstanding clinical and research skills in Neurology
  • Ability to work with colleagues and patients in a professional manner
  • Dedication to professional development, teaching and education, and to mentoring others
  • Ability to be adaptable, flexible, and creative
  • Writing skills as exemplified in scholarly work and grant applications

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an academic hospital setting is preferred
  • Experience with neurological patients, especially patients with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, and/or experience in management of neurodegenerative diseases in a subspecialty environment.
  • Eligible to obtain other states’ unrestricted medical licenses, if necessary
  • A record of previous or current research activity and funding is highly desirable
