About The Position

The Coding Technician II at Kaiser Permanente is responsible for reviewing documentation, coding, and data abstracting of medical service documentation to ensure appropriate reimbursement and compliance with guidelines and regulations. This role serves as a technical coding expert, maintaining high standards of accuracy and productivity in coding practices.

Requirements

• Minimum two (2) years of outpatient or inpatient coding experience using ICD-10, CPT-4, and HCPCS.
• High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
• Certified Professional Coder from American Academy of Professional Coders OR Certified Coding Specialist from American Health Information Management Association.
• Demonstrated ability to understand clinical content of health records.
• Above average written and communication skills.
• Ability to work with a variety of healthcare professionals.
• Working knowledge of medical specialties and clinical conditions.

Nice To Haves

• Working knowledge of electronic medical record systems preferred.
• Must reside in Colorado.

Responsibilities

• Comply with all Kaiser Permanente quality, safety, and emergency policies and procedures.
• Review provider assigned coding of level of service (CPT-4), diagnosis (ICD-10CM), and procedures (CPT-4 and HCPCS) for various encounters.
• Correct and resubmit claims based on record review and escalate issues as necessary.
• Maintain a coding accuracy level of 95% and support auditing and feedback schedules.
• Contribute to the development of specialty-specific education materials.
• Maintain current knowledge of coding conventions, guidelines, and regulations.
• Collaborate with the electronic medical record team to improve documentation efficiency.
• Participate in testing and training of new system applications as needed.
• Serve as a coding expert on various committees as requested.
• Support compliance with federal and state laws, accreditation, and policies.
