About The Position

In this role, you will provide advanced coding expertise and education across multiple healthcare facilities, ensuring accurate, compliant, and standardized coding practices. You will serve as a trusted resource for coding and billing questions, perform internal audits, and develop training programs for new and existing staff. The position combines hands-on auditing with instructional responsibilities, influencing coding quality and regulatory compliance across the organization. You will collaborate with leadership to monitor coding trends, implement regulatory updates, and support strategic planning for coding and billing practices. Remote work is available in selected states, providing flexibility while maintaining strong engagement with your team. Your work will have a direct impact on operational accuracy, revenue integrity, and staff development.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of acute care coding experience, with advanced expertise in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • At least 2 years of experience in coding auditing and/or education, preferably across multiple healthcare settings.
  • Current AHIMA credentials (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, RCC) or AAPC credentials (COC, CIC, CPC, CPC-H) required and maintained.
  • Proficiency with Epic and 3M 360 software systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform sedentary work with occasional exertion of up to 10 lbs.
  • Remote candidates must reside in approved states and may be required to travel occasionally for training or team meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Perform internal audits of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT-4 coding to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Respond to coding and billing inquiries from staff and departments.
  • Develop, deliver, and maintain coding education and training programs for new and current staff.
  • Collaborate with leadership to standardize coding practices across facilities.
  • Monitor, communicate, and implement regulatory and compliance updates in coding and billing.
  • Participate in short-term and long-term planning to support compliant and efficient coding operations.
  • Provide ongoing feedback and support to enhance staff proficiency and operational consistency.
