Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is passionate about providing exceptional health care to all, especially underserved communities with limited health care options. Requirements

  • Associate degree, or higher, in healthcare administration, finance, accounting, business administration, medical coding, or related field required
  • CPC or CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) accredited certification required
  • Experience in the healthcare industry or outpatient medical clinics required
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the skills, knowledge, and ability to perform the essential job duties, and which meets any required state or federal certification requirements.
  • Traveling between sites and other locations is occasionally required. Must have a valid California driver's license, an automobile, and proof of minimum levels of car insurance as required under California law, although limits of $100,000 are recommended. An acceptable driving record is also required. California law requires all drivers to obtain a valid California driver's license within ten days of establishing residency. Reasonable accommodation may be provided on a case-by-case basis. Mileage and other reimbursement governed by policy.
  • Intermediate level knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Intermediate skills in computer applications and software, including MS Office, Electronic Health Records, and others.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, time-management skills, and strong motivation to meet deadlines and achieve goals.

  • Thorough knowledge of revenue cycle processes, procedures, and best practices.

Nice To Haves

  • RHIT or RHIA certification preferred
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the day-to-day operations of the coding department that has experienced an increase in the volume of medical coding due to the significant impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the residents that FHCSD provides healthcare-related services.
  • Lead assigned staff to include determining work procedures and overseeing assignment productivity.
  • Oversee coding, coding compliance and department process improvements.
  • Determine and monitor internal processes to ensure compliance with department procedures, and state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
