About The Position

Dignity Health Medical Foundation, established in 1993, is a California nonprofit public benefit corporation with care centers throughout California, and an affiliate of Dignity Health, one of the largest health systems in the nation. The foundation works with physicians and providers to offer comprehensive healthcare services, investing in technology, physicians, and facilities to create purposeful work settings. The Coder II position involves reviewing and processing complex specialty clinic professional charges for Dignity Health Medical Foundation. This role requires close collaboration with medical group physicians and providers to ensure all billed services are supported by documentation and correctly coded for maximum reimbursement. The Coder II will accurately translate patient medical records into standardized codes for diagnoses and treatments, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and organizational standards through accuracy, attention to detail, strong coding knowledge, and clear communication.

Requirements

• 2 years of professional fee coding experience
• High school diploma or equivalent
• CPC or CCS-P Certification

Nice To Haves

• Two (2) years of surgical fee coding experience preferred.
• GECB/IDX and Cerner preferred

Responsibilities

• Applies coding principles consistent with government regulatory standards, payer specific guidelines and DHMF policy
• Codes complex office, surgical and hospital professional charges for assigned providers
• Reviews all ICD, E&M, CPT and HCPCS codes to ensure documentation supports all services rendered
• Queries providers, as needed, when encounters lack clear documentation or there is missing documentation in the medical record
• Provides education to physicians and providers on coding and documentation, as needed
• Assists clinic and other department staff with coding related questions pertaining to assigned providers
