Coder II - ENT

About the position

The Coder II - ENT position involves reviewing medical documentation from clinicians and health professionals to assign diagnosis and procedure codes using ICD-10 CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS. The role requires adherence to coding guidelines and compliance with federal and insurance regulations, ensuring accurate code selection and documentation support for reimbursement and data purposes. The coder will conduct independent research to stay updated on coding guidelines and regulatory policies, maintain patient confidentiality, and report any non-compliant practices. The position also involves processing coding claim denials and rejections as necessary.

Responsibilities

• Review medical documentation from clinicians and health professionals to assign diagnosis and procedure codes.
• Utilize ICD-10 CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS for coding.
• Ensure correct code selection following Official Coding Guidelines and compliance with regulations.
• Review clinician documentation to support assigned codes for reimbursement and data purposes.
• Conduct independent research on coding guidelines and regulatory policies.
• Adhere to the Standards of Ethical Coding set by the American Health Information Management Association.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient records and report non-compliant practices.
• Meet and exceed departmental quality and productivity standards.
• Recommend modifications to policies and procedures as needed.
• Process Coding Claim Denials and Coding Claim Rejections.

Requirements

• Coding Certification from AAPC or AHIMA.
• Advanced training beyond High School in Medical Coding or related field.
• Typically requires 3 years of experience in professional coding.
• Advanced knowledge of ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
• Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
• Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office and electronic coding systems.
• Advanced communication and interpersonal skills.
• Advanced organization, prioritization, and reading comprehension skills.
• Advanced analytical skills with high attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and exercise judgment.
• Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
