About The Position

Under general supervision of the Coding Supervisor, the Inpatient Coder supports Dayton Children's goals for reimbursement through accurate and timely diagnosis and procedural coding of inpatient, observation, and outpatient surgery records. This includes the examination and interpretation of the electronic medical documentation to assign and report the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes for the services provided for clean claim submission. Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED required
  • 1-2 years coding experience required
  • CCS required or must obtain within 6 months of employment
  • Knowledge of automated workflow applications and processes
  • Computer skills
  • Oral and written communication
  • Medical and non-medical terminology
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Experience with 3M encoder

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor's degree preferred
  • 3-4 years coding experience preferred
  • Pediatric experience helpful
  • RHIT/RHIA or eligible preferred
  • EPIC experience
