The DPL Foundation is seeking a highly organized, proactive and community engaged individual to join our team and help lead a Summer Program called Code: Grow Neighborhood for youth ages 5-13. The Summer Programming Intern will be responsible for leading tech focused gardening courses for youth at two separate garden sites on Detroit’s east side three days a week from June - August. A week of instructor training orientation will take place June 15-19th and the Program will begin for students after orientation. This position reports directly to the Director of Code:Grow. The goal of the Code: Grow Neighborhood program is to create a foundation in digital literacy and computational thinking by using code to support their gardens. We teach introductory physical and computational programming skills using Microsoft's Make Code microbit lessons. Free weekly sessions take place in Detroit garden spaces where students will help plant and tend to gardens, all while completing tech based experiments to create building blocks for digital literacy through youth specific computer code on their microbits.
