About The Position

The position involves making inspections of grounds and properties for compliance with municipal codes and ordinances within the City jurisdiction. The role requires enforcing property maintenance codes, responding to complaints, entering inspection reports into the city computer system, and preparing various correspondence and reports related to code enforcement issues. The inspector will conduct field inspections, take appropriate actions to correct violations, and represent the City professionally while dealing with the public to resolve issues.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Computer proficiency and knowledge of related software programs and office equipment.
• Must possess ICC certification or have the ability to obtain certification.
• Must pass I.P.M.C test within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Enforces municipal, property maintenance codes and ordinances.
• Receives and responds to complaints of code violations related to signage, nuisances, housing conditions, weeds, dumping, and other code-related matters.
• Enters inspection reports into the city computer system.
• Prepares and maintains correspondence, written warnings, citations, records, and reports relating to code enforcement issues.
• Conducts field inspections of violations and takes appropriate action to correct them.
• Posts vacant or unsafe buildings not approved for occupancy.
• Logs complaints, assigns case numbers, and establishes case files.
• Performs vacant structure inspections.
• Represents the City in a professional manner and effectively deals with the public.
• Provides information to persons requesting assistance in code enforcement matters.
• Meets with owners, tenants, contractors, and business owners to review violations and explain code requirements.
