In this role, you will inspect property and investigate complaints concerning violations of municipal code. Requirements

  • 6 months of related experience and/or training
  • Associate’s Degree (AA/AS), or an equivalent combination of education and training
  • Valid state issued driver’s license
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or similar software
  • May require evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled
  • In the event of major storms or other emergency situations, this position may be subject to 24-hour shifts or any other emergency schedule that is necessary to meet the City’s needs

Responsibilities

  • Inspects designated areas periodically for evidence of violation
  • Ensures that property owners, contractors etc. have proper permits
  • Interviews residents and inspects area to investigate reports of violations
  • Locates property owners and explains nature of inspection and investigation findings, and encourages voluntary action to resolve problems
  • Studies laws and statutes in municipal code to determine specific nature of code violations and type of action to be taken
  • Issues notices of violation to owners not complying with request for voluntary correction of problems
  • Prepares case materials when legal action is required to solve problems, and may appear in court to testify if needed
  • Conducts or participates in informational meetings for residents and property owners
  • Maintains appropriate records and prepares required reports
  • Performs other duties as assigned
