In this role, you will inspect property and investigate complaints concerning violations of municipal code. Requirements

6 months of related experience and/or training
Associate’s Degree (AA/AS), or an equivalent combination of education and training
Valid state issued driver’s license
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or similar software
May require evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled
In the event of major storms or other emergency situations, this position may be subject to 24-hour shifts or any other emergency schedule that is necessary to meet the City’s needs

Responsibilities

Inspects designated areas periodically for evidence of violation
Ensures that property owners, contractors etc. have proper permits
Interviews residents and inspects area to investigate reports of violations
Locates property owners and explains nature of inspection and investigation findings, and encourages voluntary action to resolve problems
Studies laws and statutes in municipal code to determine specific nature of code violations and type of action to be taken
Issues notices of violation to owners not complying with request for voluntary correction of problems
Prepares case materials when legal action is required to solve problems, and may appear in court to testify if needed
Conducts or participates in informational meetings for residents and property owners
Maintains appropriate records and prepares required reports
Performs other duties as assigned
