About The Position

The City of Mandan, North Dakota is currently accepting applications for the position of Code Enforcement Officer. This position is responsible for assisting with the enforcement of city codes and ordinances. The role includes interpreting and enforcing municipal, zoning, and regulatory codes, as well as responding to citizen inquiries and complaints regarding alleged code violations. The Code Enforcement Officer will also patrol the city to enforce animal control ordinances and parking regulations, maintain records, and prepare reports related to enforcement actions and inspections.

Requirements

• Completion of specialized training in the field of work.
• Basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Dakota.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Motorcycle Endorsement for operation of parking enforcement vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Interprets and enforces municipal, zoning, and regulatory codes.
• Assists Code Enforcement Supervisor with tasks as assigned.
• Coordinates activities with other staff and enforcement personnel.
• Communicates code compliance concerns with residential, commercial, and industrial communities.
• Conducts legal investigations regarding violations and documents evidence.
• Maintains files and records; prepares reports pertaining to abatements, court actions, daily activities, enforcement actions, and inspections.
• Patrols city to enforce animal control ordinances.
• Issues warnings and citations for animal control violations.
• Investigates cases involving animal cruelty, abuse, or neglect.
• Enforces parking ordinances and issues citations for violations.
• Conducts employee accident investigations and safety inspections.
