About The Position

Manage the Town's code enforcement program by performing a variety of routine and complex tasks in the interpretation and enforcement of Town-adopted codes and related rules and regulations. Monitor and enforce a variety of applicable ordinances, codes, and regulations related to zoning, land use, building codes, health and safety, and other matters of public concern.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of municipal experience in code enforcement, building, or planning.
  • The equivalent of the successful completion of twelfth grade with at least 30 college semester units. An Associate degree is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid California State Driver's License, or license in another state with the ability to obtain a California license within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to complaints, research background information on code enforcement complaint properties and conduct field investigations of potential code violations.
  • Issue verbal and written warnings, correction letters, and notices of violation.
  • Meet with property owners, tenants and business operators to review and explain code requirements and potential violations.
  • Work cooperatively, on an as-needed basis, with the City Attorney, Chief Building Official, Chief of Planning, City Engineer and other staff to facilitate compliance.
  • Investigate suspected violations of health, safety, zoning, public nuisance, building or other codes and take follow-up action as necessary to pursue compliance.
  • Prepare reports related to zoning compliance issues and present such reports to management staff, the Planning Commission, Town Council and/or other groups.
  • Maintain various logs, reports, chronologies and citation narratives related to zoning compliance issues.
  • Serve as a resource person for Development Services personnel for field investigations and/or basic research; testify in court as required.
  • Initiate, research and assist with existing and projected changes to the Danville Municipal Code.
  • Review and process encroachment permit applications.
  • Assist the general public at the Permit Center front counter.
