About The Position

The Code Compliance Officer is responsible for conducting inspections and investigations of properties and buildings to enforce city regulations and codes. This role involves identifying environmental or health hazards, nuisance violations, and unsafe building conditions, as well as documenting actions taken and preparing case files for administrative proceedings. The position requires proactive and reactive engagement with the community to address various code violations and ensure compliance with municipal standards.

Requirements

• Associate's degree from an accredited college or university or two years of college education.
• 1 to 3 years of experience in code enforcement or related fields.
• Code Enforcement Officer Certificate of Registration or ability to obtain within 120 days of employment.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with municipal codes and regulations.
• Familiarity with Energov and IG Inspect and Enforce Database systems.
• Basic bookkeeping skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct proactive and reactive inspections of properties and buildings.
• Investigate complaints related to vacant homes and lots.
• Address violations such as tall weeds, junk vehicles, and trash.
• Enforce city codes regarding substandard structures and housing standards.
• Document all actions and evidence collected during investigations.
• Prepare case files for administrative proceedings regarding dangerous buildings.
• Issue notice of violation documents to property owners.
• Prepare quotes and work orders for property abatement.
• Maintain regulatory records and prepare reports for submission.
