The City of Jacksonville is seeking dedicated individuals for the position of Code Compliance Officer within the Neighborhoods Department. This role is essential for ensuring that residential, commercial, and real estate properties comply with local zoning, building, and structure safety codes. As a Code Compliance Officer, you will perform compliance inspections, issue reports, and citations for violations, and engage in the prosecution of cases before the local code enforcement board or Special Magistrate. This position requires a strong understanding of building construction techniques, zoning laws, and the ability to effectively communicate and influence property owners and contractors. In this role, you will be responsible for inspecting properties to ensure adherence to safety and zoning codes, citing violations, and preparing detailed reports on your findings. You will also respond to community inquiries and complaints regarding property inspections and condemnations, promoting awareness of property safety standards. The work environment is dynamic, requiring the ability to adapt to changing priorities and situations while maintaining a high level of professionalism and judgment. The physical demands of the job include standing, walking, climbing, and occasionally lifting light objects, as you will be working both indoors and outdoors at various properties. The position operates under limited supervision, allowing you to plan and organize your work while adhering to established procedures and policies. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the community while enjoying a work/life balance, with benefits such as four weeks of paid time off in your first year, health insurance options, and eligibility for Federal Student Loan Forgiveness after ten years of public service.
