About The Position

The Hotel Cocktail Server is responsible for delivering exceptional guest service by serving beverages and food to guests in the hotel bar, lounge, and event spaces. This role requires knowledge of cocktails, alcoholic beverages, and food pairings, along with the ability to create a welcoming, refined, and enjoyable atmosphere. The ideal candidate is attentive, personable, and able to thrive in a fast-paced luxury hospitality environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience as a server, cocktail server, bartender, or similar hospitality role preferred.
  • Knowledge of cocktails, alcoholic beverages, and food pairings.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple orders in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience operating a POS system and handling cash and credit transactions.
  • Professional appearance, positive attitude, and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required Food Handler and Responsible Alcohol Service certifications in accordance with California law.
  • Work is primarily performed in hotel bar, lounge, restaurant, kitchen, and event settings, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periodsand perform repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to bend, reach, lift, and carry trays, food, beverages, and supplies weighing up to 45 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a high-energy, fast-paced environment with varying noise levels and temperatures.

Responsibilities

  • Greet guests warmly, present menus, offer recommendations, and highlight daily specials.
  • Take food and beverage orders accurately and communicate them to the kitchen and bar, including dietary restrictions, allergies, and special requests.
  • Enter orders into the hotel POS system and process payments, including cash, credit cards, and room charges.
  • Serve food and beverages promptly, ensuring accuracy, quality, and proper presentation.
  • Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in accordance with hotel standards and applicable laws.
  • Provide guests with necessary service items such as napkins, utensils, and condiments.
  • Recommend cocktails, wine, and food pairings toenhance the guest experience.
  • Offer additional items such as desserts, refills, or premium selections to elevate service.
  • Check in regularly with guests, address concerns professionally, and escalate issues to management when appropriate.
  • Respond promptly and courteously to guest inquiries and special requests.
  • Follow responsible alcohol service practices and identify situations requiring guest intervention or management involvement.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked bar and surrounding service areas.
  • Set up bar service areas prior to opening, including garnishes and supplies.
  • Restock liquor, beer, wine, glassware, and other bar supplies as needed.
  • Clear empty dishes, glassware, and trash promptly.
  • Clean tables, chairs, bar surfaces, and service areas between guests and at the end of each shift.
  • Follow all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines to maintain a safe and sanitary work environment.
  • Collaborate closely with bartenders, kitchen staff, and hotel team members to ensure seamless service.
  • Communicate guest preferences, dietary needs, and special accommodations accurately.
  • Assist food runners and bussers with delivering and clearing items as needed.
  • Support team members during peak service periods to maintain operational flow.
  • Attend pre-shift meetings to stay informed of menu updates, special events, and hotel policies.
  • Address guest complaints professionally and escalate when necessary.
  • Adhere to all hotel policies and procedures, including responsible alcohol service guidelines.
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal food safety and liquor laws.
  • Monitor guest behavior to prevent overconsumption and report concerns to management.
  • Maintain a polished appearance and uphold grooming, uniform, and conduct standards.
  • Follow timekeeping, attendance, meal, and rest break policies in accordance with California labor laws.
  • Uphold MacArthur Place’s luxury service standards and commitment to hospitality excellence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
