About The Position

This Inspector position is responsible for the management of small maintenance and construction contracts associated with painting and fireproofing. Work under general supervision in Freeport, TX. Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to: Provide oversight for performance and continuous improvement of the onsite paint contractor. Serve as the primary interface between the company and the painting vendors. Review and understand contract documents. Monitor daily EPA, SARA 313, VOC’s, abrasive blasting emissions, and report to EHS Department. Assist with updating and maintaining the site painting and fireproof surveys. Assist in the preparation of the annual paint and fireproof work scope by unit/plant. Assist in the preparation of the bid documents. Write specifications for lump sum extras and evaluate added cost. Monitor paint/fireproofing application. Participate in continuous education training to stay current with the technology advances in painting, and fireproofing. Provide technical expertise and consulting to the users of the service within company. Participate in professional organizations and internal committees representing the painting, fireproofing, coatings, and related fields. Approve contractor time sheets. Plan and estimate small painting, fireproofing, and coatings projects. Monitor safety, quality, and housekeeping at all time.

Requirements

  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be a “Basic Coatings Inspector CIP Level 1” from AMPP (Association of Materials Protection and Performance)
  • Must be familiar with quality control techniques and their application in painting, fireproofing, and coatings industry.
  • Must be able to read and understand contract language including performance-based contracting.
  • Must have the ability to work with high performance teams engaged in the development, management and coordination of complex capital and expense projects.
  • Requires the ability to develop and manage daily work plans.
  • Requires a working knowledge of Microsoft products and SAP work order and ordering system.
  • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills, good judgment, and the ability to work with field construction personnel as well as engineering, operations personnel, owners and management personnel.
  • Requires the ability to read P&ID’s, Orthographic and Isometric drawings.
  • Requires the ability to perform simple mathematical computations using spreadsheet software.
  • Must be self-directed.
  • Requires the ability to stand, walk, and sit regularly.
  • Requires the ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and see, talk, and hear.
  • Occasionally requires the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Requires the ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
