To thrive as a Coatings Application Engineer, you will drive the development of new paint applicator products, refine existing designs, and ensure we maintain a strong market position. As part of our R&D team, you will focus on technical leadership, collaboration, and continuous improvement to deliver high-quality, high-performance products. At Behr, we innovate products that meet the highest standard of quality for our customers. This role leads technical projects aimed at advancing paint applicator technology, working closely with cross-functional teams, key suppliers, and other partners. Success in this position requires strong problem-solving skills, technical expertise, and the ability to translate research findings into actionable product improvements.

  • Lead product development initiatives from concept through production, ensuring applicators meet performance, quality, and market demands.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key supply partners which would require up to 25% of travel to establish and maintain relationships with our partners.
  • Define and oversee testing protocols to assess material properties, product durability, and overall performance.
  • Evaluate new materials and production methods, working with suppliers to ensure consistency and quality in manufacturing.
  • Scale up new products and oversee implementation at production sites, addressing technical challenges and optimizing processes.
  • Partner with the Quality team to refine product specifications, maintain performance standards, and ensure seamless product launches.
  • Present technical findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders and suppliers, supporting data-driven decision-making.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to technicians and chemists, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing as needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field (or equivalent industry experience).
  • Expertise in materials testing, product design, and engineering principles as applied to paint applicator development.
  • Understanding of quality control processes, manufacturing operations, and statistical analysis methods to drive product improvements.
  • Ability to analyze technical data, conduct material evaluations, and communicate findings effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
