About The Position

APTIM, a leading Environmental Engineering and Program & Construction Management firm with a global presence and a thriving Coastal & Marine Engineering practice, is pleased to announce an immediate opening for a Coastal Engineer in our New York City office. We are seeking a Marine / Coastal Engineer with 5-10 years of professional experience to support a diverse portfolio of environmental, engineering, and construction management projects throughout the New York City metropolitan area. The successful candidate will work on complex waterfront, coastal resiliency, and marine infrastructure projects, collaborating closely with environmental specialists, engineers, and construction management professionals. This role is ideal for an engineer with strong technical capabilities, regulatory awareness, and construction-phase experience in dense urban coastal environments.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of coastal engineering experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering field required
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the State of New York or the ability to be licensed within 6 months
  • In depth understanding of the marine and shoreline environment in New York City
  • Demonstrated technical and analytical skills in designing projects
  • Demonstrated history of technical leadership, mentoring, and independent success
  • Demonstrated strength in written and verbal communication skills suitable to a consulting environment
  • Demonstrated ability to fluently communicate in spoken and written English
  • Have a passion for working in a consulting firm environment on various types of projects
  • Experience with preparation of proposals, selection presentations and business development
  • Willingness to travel in support of business and project activities

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, analysis, and design of marine and coastal infrastructure, including bulkheads, piers, revetments, seawalls, flood protection systems, and shoreline stabilization features.
  • Provide construction-phase engineering and construction management support, including review of marine construction means and methods, shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals.
  • Conduct or support field inspections and site observations of marine construction activities such as pile installation, dredging, cofferdams, and in-water work.
  • Support dredging and sediment management programs, including sediment sampling plans, dredging limits, and coordination with contaminated sediment protocols.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams, integrating marine engineering solutions with environmental constraints, constructability considerations, and project schedules.
  • Assist with cost estimating, constructability reviews, and schedule development for marine and coastal projects.
  • Participate in client, agency, and stakeholder meetings, preparing technical documentation, presentations, and responses to regulatory or contractor inquiries.
  • Support post-construction monitoring, inspections, and asset condition assessments for marine and coastal infrastructure.
