EA is seeking a dedicated Coastal Engineer to join our growing Coastal Resilience practice in Honolulu, Hawaii. As part of our dynamic team, you'll contribute to projects across the Pacific that integrate engineering, ecology, and climate resilience. Whether your expertise lies in navigating Hawaii's coastal regulatory framework or advancing coastal engineering practices, your work will help protect and restore vital coastal environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Coastal, Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field.
  • 3 or more years of relevant professional experience (recent Master's or PhD graduates may also be considered).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work effectively in both field and office environments.
  • Familiarity with Federal, State, and local environmental regulations and permitting for tidal or nearshore projects.
  • Experience with project or task management and proposal development.
  • Experience in coastal structure design.

Nice To Haves

  • E.I.T. preferred; Hawaii PE or PE eligibility is a plus.
  • Experience with CAD, GIS, and hydrodynamic modeling.
  • Experience working with Native Hawaiian organizations.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Design and permit projects that harness natural processes to solve environmental challenges.
  • Restore coastal habitats such as wetlands and dunes to promote long-term ecological health.
  • Develop adaptive strategies to protect nearshore infrastructure and natural resources from climate impacts.
  • Support sediment management, wetland assessments, and beach/dune preservation efforts.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams of engineers, scientists, and planners to deliver high-quality, sustainable project outcomes.
  • Contribute to data analysis, design documentation, and technical report preparation.
