About The Position

This position involves managing the planning and design of urban waterfront and coastal structures, including marinas, marine terminals, urban waterfront developments, cruise ship facilities, wetland restoration, dredging, shore protection structures, and flood walls. The role includes managing and designing construction projects, preparing engineering designs by analyzing various data sources, and managing project cost analysis. Key responsibilities also encompass creating feasibility studies, conducting flood hazard identification and mapping, developing construction specifications, plans, and schedules, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations such as NEPA, Endangered Species Act, and Clean Water Act. The Coastal Engineer V will also support the Coastal/Water practice through business development efforts with various public and private sector clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, or its foreign equivalent, in Civil Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8 years of experience as a Coastal Engineer or a related occupation.
  • 8 years of experience planning and designing for urban waterfront and coastal structures, including marinas, marine terminals, urban waterfront developments, and cruise ship facilities.
  • 8 years of experience in the planning and design of wetland restoration, dredging, shore protection structures, and flood wall projects.
  • 8 years of experience with MATLAB or Python.
  • 8 years of experience designing using one or more of the following: AutoCAD or CIVIL 3D.
  • 8 years of experience analyzing geospatial data using one or more of the following: QGIS, Grass GIS, Arc GIS or Google Earth Engine.
  • 8 years of experience with at least one (1) beach response numerical modeling tool such as CSHORE, SBeach or XBeach.
  • 8 years of experience with at least one (1) hydrodynamic modeling tool such as ADCIRC or Delft3D.

Responsibilities

  • Manages plans and designs for urban waterfront and coastal structures projects, including marinas, marine terminals, urban waterfront developments and cruise ship facilities; wetland restoration, dredging, shore protection structures, and flood walls.
  • Manage and designs construction projects by studying project concept, architectural drawings, and models.
  • Manages and prepares engineering design by collecting and studying reports, maps, drawings, aerial photographs, and tests on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and related topographical and geologic data.
  • Manages the analysis of project costs by calculating labor, material, and related costs.
  • Creates feasibility study by analyzing engineering design, conducting environmental impact studies, and assembling data.
  • Manages and conducts flood hazard identification and mapping of coastal hazards.
  • Manges and develops construction specifications, plans, and schedules to produce engineering documents.
  • Research and assists in complying with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; and advising management on needed actions.
  • Successfully supports ongoing Coastal/Water practice through contacts and business development efforts working with EPA, Army Corps of Engineers, NOAA, Local Environmental agencies, as well as private sector clients.
  • Implements scientific and regulatory tasks for projects to ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations, and policies, including NEPA, Endangered Species Act, and Clean Water Act.
