About The Position

Montgomery County Public Schools in Virginia is accepting applications for a robotics coach to co-teach the Robotics 2/3 evening course for the 2024-2025 school year. The robotics course will meet twice per week from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the robotics classroom at Christiansburg High School. Additionally, the robotics instructor will help oversee the workshop during a six-week long 'build season' each evening from the first week in January through the third week in February. This position is open to MCPS teachers only. The robotics coach will assist in developing and teaching project-based lessons that expose students to programming, computer-aided design, circuits, metal fabrication, and the engineering design process. The robotics coach will supervise high school students as they design, build, and test a FIRST Robotics Competition robot. The robotics coach will also assist in planning and organizing overnight trips to regional and national competitions and assist instructors with organizing a parent booster group and fundraising.

Requirements

  • Must be a Montgomery County Public Schools' teacher.
  • Ability to be dependable and punctual.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of modern programming languages such as Java, C++, or LabView.
  • Knowledge of drafting or 3D animation software such as Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, or 3D Studio Max.
  • Operating knowledge of stationary and portable power tools (mill, lathe, band saw, welder, drill driver, grinder, etc.).
  • Ability to solve high level math problems.
  • Experience in sculpture/design.
  • Experience in physics and/or chemistry.
  • OSHA safety training.

Benefits

  • Supplemental pay equal to 17% of base salary.
