The Head Flag Football Coach is responsible for the leadership, organization, and administration of the Virginia Union University women’s flag football program. This position oversees all aspects of the program, including coaching, recruiting, player development, academic monitoring, compliance, and community engagement. The Head Coach is expected to operate the program in full compliance with NCAA Division II, conference, and University policies while fostering a positive and competitive student-athlete experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of flag football rules, techniques, and coaching strategies.
  • Prior coaching or playing experience in flag football or a related sport.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds.
  • Candidates are required to submit their resume, four professional references and a cover letter.
  • A background investigation and reference check will be required prior to employment.

Responsibilities

  • Teach sport-specific skills, techniques, and tactics appropriate for collegiate flag football.
  • Develop student-athletes athletically, academically, and personally.
  • Create a positive team culture emphasizing discipline, leadership, sportsmanship, and accountability.
  • Identify, recruit, and retain qualified prospective student-athletes in accordance with NCAA and institutional rules.
  • Coordinate recruiting efforts including campus visits, communication, evaluations, and outreach.
  • Collaborate with admissions, financial aid, and compliance to ensure eligibility and enrollment requirements are met.
  • Monitor academic progress and support academic success initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with NCAA Division II, conference, and University rules and regulations.
  • Manage team budgets, equipment inventories, travel arrangements, and scheduling in coordination with the athletics department.
  • Submit required reports and evaluations in a timely manner.
  • Assist with the hiring, training, and supervision of assistant coaches and support staff.
  • Promote professional conduct and adherence to institutional policies.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, community outreach, and University events.
  • Support marketing, promotions, and game-day operations to enhance program visibility.
  • Work collaboratively with athletic training, strength and conditioning, compliance, academic services, and administration.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, alumni, and University stakeholders as appropriate.
