About The Position

We are seeking motivated individuals to work with students interested in sports, providing necessary structure and preparation for a team to be successful against opposing teams in a sports season. The role involves teaching and enforcing rules and regulations, as well as instructing athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary to maximize their potential for achieving individual and team success. The head coach will also be responsible for formulating moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence among student-athletes. Additionally, the head coach will implement a code of conduct that adheres to policies and regulations approved by the EPS Board of Education, NMAA, and the Athletic Handbook.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency.
  • Must hold or have the ability to obtain an Athletic Coaching License from the New Mexico Public Education Department.
  • Completion of the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association.
  • Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program (in-season and offseason).
  • Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport at the same level of competition.
  • Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience advising and coordinating a staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training.
  • Provide instruction to all student-athletes to maximize their potential.
  • Implement a code of conduct adhering to policies and regulations.
  • Report directly to the Athletic Director, Principal, or other appropriate authority.
  • Establish philosophies, skills, and techniques to be learned by coaching staff.
  • Plan and provide clinics and staff meetings to ensure staff awareness of the overall program.
  • Train and inform staff, encouraging professional growth and clinic attendance.
  • Delegate specific duties to assistant coaches and supervise implementation of core philosophy and strategy.
  • Analyze program effectiveness and maintain self and team discipline.
  • Assist the Athletic Director in scheduling games and securing transportation.
  • Coordinate program needs with maintenance and school employees.
  • Provide documentation to fulfill state and school requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
  • Safeguard maintenance and protection of assigned equipment and facilities.
