The Supplier Engineering - Plastics Co-op candidate will work with cross functional teams, including manufacturing, quality, process, design, mechanical, and electrical engineers on projects related to root cause investigation of manufacturing issues, increasing manufacturing capacity, qualifying new component suppliers, analyzing current manufacturing processes, and improving company processes. These functions and others help support Insulet's ability to continue to improve the quality of life for more diabetes patients every day. The ideal candidate will have the desire to learn about and work with various manufacturing processes and practices (such as plastic injection molding, extrusion, and automated assembly) and lab testing equipment, while learning about the medical device industry. Co-op's will also have the opportunity to experience state of the art manufacturing in Acton and international business and manufacturing processes by interfacing with Insulet employees working at the manufacturing plant in China. Insulet focuses on professional development of co-op students. Each co-op has a manager who works with them to achieve desired learning outcomes based on the preferences of the co-op.

  • Work closely with Insulet's Senior Plastics Engineers to understand and help improve current challenges, designs, processing, manufacturing, and automation molding cells.
  • Work hands on with lab equipment (Instron, Pressure Transducers, OGP, High Speed Camera, etc.) to aid Root Cause Analysis activities.
  • Design test procedures, 3D printed fixtures, perform custom tests, and analyze data to support tool qualifications and design enhancements.
  • Project Lead for at least one root causing / process improvement initiative.
  • Improve internal processes (data analysis, workflow systems, etc.) by automating tasks and standardizing methods using applicable software skills (VBA, etc.).
  • Application of Six Sigma & Lean manufacturing concepts.
  • Assist/Lead Engineering Change Orders to improve product design.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Up to 5% Travel to local suppliers as needed.
  • Currently enrolled in undergraduate Plastics Engineering program.
  • 3.0 GPA or better.
  • Mechanical aptitude / hands on mentality
  • Familiar with statistical analysis
  • Experience with CAD software
  • Good documentation skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • The US base salary range for this full-time position is $26.00 - $34.25.
