About The Position

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Our Bus Fleet Maintenance Engineering Office is looking for a Co-op Student to support the Bus Fleet Maintenance team meet corporate bus fleet availability and reliability targets. You will work alongside the Equipment Engineering and Technical Support Services team to investigate systemic failures and provide technical solutions developed through root cause analysis. In this role, you will be exposed to partners within bus fleet operations, which include operations, safety, skilled trades, and many more.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a full-time accredited co-op program in order to be considered for this position.
  • Must be at least 15 years of age before starting employment
  • Enrolled in a Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering program at a post-secondary institution
  • A willingness to investigate problems from both an analytical and hands on approach is required
  • Strong written, oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with and help other co-workers with various projects
  • Working knowledge of diesel automotive systems
  • Interest in preventative maintenance and equipment optimization

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of SQL and scripting language (R and Python) would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Playing a key role in supporting Equipment Engineering initiatives to improve bus fleet availability and reliability by investigating and resolving systemic failures
  • Supporting root cause analysis using LEAN and Six Sigma methodologies
  • Supporting the development and distribution of technical service bulletins to Equipment Maintenance and Fleet operations
  • Validate pilot projects, and upcoming technology to ensure compatibility and integration with current and future assets
  • Support component failure data analysis by reviewing trends and providing predictive modelling
  • Research current industry technologies to improve bus operation and performance
  • This role will be required to travel within the GTHA.
